PRAISE THE LORD

The excitement and jubilation in the atmosphere that day was tangible. Shouts of joy and singing could be heard for miles and miles around as the children of Israel rejoiced before their God. In the enemy territory there was nothing but terror.

The musicals played with all manner of instruments made of wood, harpers played the harps, psalteries made new songs, the tumbrels made a beautiful noise, the cornet competed with the cymbals and every one danced before the Lord like there was no tomorrow

At the forefront behind the ark of God were their king; dancing and singing loudest of all. He put aside the dignity of a king because he knew he was dancing before he king of kings. He remembered how God had chosen him while he was yet a boy. He remembered how God had spared his life nine times in two years. He remembered the victories that God had given him, how he had fought mighty powers and conquered all.

When David remembered all the goodness of the God he just glorified Him. Oh how he danced that day. His clothes got disheveled but he did not care. All he cared about was worshipping and praising the Lord his GOD. The children of Israel saw how their king praised and followed his example and what a glorious time that was. The angels in heaven could not help but join in and praise flowed on the earth and in heaven.

When I read about this wonderful account in 2 Sam 6, I was convicted. I asked myself how do I appear before the Lord my God? When we gather in the house of God to praise and worship God do I worry about who is watching me and about my dignity instead of leaping for joy and praising God? Do I remember his goodness and worship him and praise him like it's my last day on planet earth?

Remember he whom much is given much is required. How much has God blessed you? Look at the way He has protected you and given you strength. Consider the ones in hospitals are you better than them? Yet God has granted that you have good health. How about those who have gone without food for days? Those without feet so they can never wear shoes? Those without jobs? The list is endless

Remember my friend and praise God like you have never done whether in the privacy of your home, in church as you walk around, as you work or as you rest. Much has been given to you therefore much is required from you. Remember you were created for this sole purpose, to praise and worship God.

IN ALL THINGS GIVE THANKS

I opened the bible that afternoon believing that some how God would give me a word of comfort and I could not believe the words I was reading in Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose Somewhere on the radio I could hear them singing 'in every thing give thanks'. In despair I shut my bible and switched off the radio.

I could not see anything working for my good and as for giving thanks, what was there to give thanks for? I mean look at my situation I am between jobs, have bills to pay and now the only hope I had of earning a few pounds had been blown! Really, what was there to give thanks for?

A friend of mine had heard over the radio about a drug testing company that needed women of my age to do a test and she gave me the number. I called and the company sent me the forms. I had a chance to go to Aberdeen for four days, expenses paid with also a pay of £550 that was a chance of a life time. When I read through the forms, however, I realized I did not qualify and my dreams went up in a smoke.

Two days later someone blessed me with some money and a week later I had a permanent job and I soon forgot the incident. One month came, one year came and then two weeks ago I saw something on the telly that jolted my memory and made me sit up on my chair.

Six young men had like me volunteered for a drug test and everything had gone all wrong. Two of them were in the verge of death, two in critical condition. The drug having never been tested on human beings before reacted badly and the medics were appealing for help from all over the world.

I remembered how I had thrown a tantrum for not going for a drug test, I remembered how I had not seen anything to thank God for and how angry I had been and I felt sorry for myself. Who knows what God had protected me from by not going for the test?

Then I realized the word of god tells us to give thanks in everything. The doors may be shut in your face but give thanks for the door could have lead to nothing but trouble. In everything my friends, GIVE THANKS.
